Belgium Today Newsletter, 9th Edition.
24 Hours of Beer Festival: Sat/Sun Nov. 3/4 -- details at http://www.24-uur.be/en/index.htm
57 days to First Sip!

NOTE
Okay, another edition is being produced, even though there are no new major Flight changes to report.

Why? Because...
0. We are now officially under 2 months to first sip, an important milestone. Get practicing!
1. I need to know who wants to room at the same hotel in Antwerp. Specifically I need to hear from Steve Urban, George Anderson, and John Jaser. And, of course, anyone else who is planning on joining us.
2. Stupid people, stupid concepts. Read on...
3. Once again, I've been working for the cause. Read below...

All editions of the Belgium Today Newsletter can be found online at http://travelpete.com/belgium/ — Various editions have flight plans for all travelers who have booked tickets so far.

This is the first online-only edition. I've stopped doing the email versions, it's just a pain to produce and format both.

SPECIAL NOTE
Dung Beer
Yep, you heard right. I was forwarded this article about the Scottish. They should really stick with Scotch and leave the bubbly stuff to the Belgians...

Dung Beer Article in Full

MONEY SECTION
We haven't discussed Dutch money lately.

It's 2.43 to one as of today. This is about 20% better than in 1999. So, Amsterdam is on the cheap.

EXCUSE OF THE WEEK
To support our good friend Bill Fisher's progress in drinking a few for the team. This week, I purchased and consumed:

Stella Artois — Gotta keep the big Belgian Breweries rollin'! In this case, Stella has been "brewed in the same tradition since 1366" which is very impressive. A relatively moderated taste, it's a drinkable brew. For a small shrine, see http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/blood_divine/stellash.htm
Westmalle Double — This is a true Trappist Monk Belgian beer (i.e. the Abbey of Westmalle) and a strong tasting, nicely flavored and quaffable drink. Visit http://www.negia.net/~brew/westmalle.html for a picture and faint aroma...
Duinen Triple — Phew! This is a knocker @ 9%, no doubt. For many words and a picture, see http://www.merchantduvin.com/pages/5_breweries/huyghe.html

TIP O' THE WEEK
The following site also has blind taste test results for...

Lambics (a Belgian style)
http://www.negia.net/~brew/blind_lambic.html

Belgian Whites

Strong beers (incl. a few Belgians)

AIRLINE UPDATES
See website links to airlines and reservation sites. W
e are all arriving Friday morning between 7am and 8.15am, try to join us!

HOTELLING
Who is in for getting rooms together at the same hotel near the city's old center in Antwerp for Fri/Sat/Sun Nov 2/3/4, which is the weekend of the beer festival? Email me and let me know.

When I compile a list I'll produce some suggestions for next week and start planning to book rooms. Also, mention whether you mind rooming with other folks or want your own room.

Currently up for rooming: The BilFish, Erich Of The German First Name, Dan Rowley, & Chad Wright

ATTENDEE (Commitment) / LENGTH OF STAY (LOS) / SNORE QUOTIENT
In detail on the Who's Going Page!

Tote Board:
7 Men of Impeccable Honor – Definitely going to Belgium
6 Men of Indiscriminate Discipline – Perhaps going to Belgium

REMEMBER
Life, is just a bowl of Chaaaaaiiiirrrrriiiies. Cherry Lambic, I presume.

Cheers,

BilFish
